Simply Solar of Maryland is the installer of Solar PV (photovoltaic systems) systems to residential and commercial customers with the highest quality of design. As a result of the current energy crisis Americans are looking into their alternative energy choices. There is so much information out there explaining the numerous benefits of going green. The most common and most effective is Solar PV's (photovoltaic systems.)

The Solar PV's are panels used to convert sunlight into electricity via solar cells. The panels react when exposed to the sun by creating DC (direct current) which is sent to an inverter converting into AC (alternating current); therefore producing usable electricity for your home. When this process produces more electricity than your home consumes, the excess electricity causes your meter to spin backwards.

Solar PV's take advantage of the most promising free source of clean renewable energy; the SUN! The energy produced by the sun is not like that of coal, oil, gas and or nuclear. The sun's energy is 100% clean which means it has zero affect on the environment.

Simply Solar of Maryland will help you reduce your carbon footprint to stop global warming. The EPA (environmental protection agency) has reports that for each Kilowatt — hour of electricity that is produced from a coal — creates 2.3 pounds of carbon dioxide. Imagine the amount of carbon dioxide you alone could reduce.

So What About the Grid?

PV systems fall under four categories:

  1. Grid-Tied or interconnected — this PV system is the most popular and use special inverters which allow electricity to flow back into the electric grid (meter — electrical co.) This electricity is used by your home or business first, thus allowing credits to build up. See REC"S. These systems are metered in two different ways.
    • A. Net metering — when the meter spins backwards because of it being a single use meter which nets out both the electricity that is produced from the grid and what is sent back to the grid.
    • B. Dual metering — two separate meters are used one for tracking energy produced by the grid (meter) and one for tracking energy produced by the PV's.

  2. Grid-Interconnected with Battery Back-up — this is just as it is named: a back up. It is a system that offers customers continued power, even when the system goes down as in a power outage and or night time. This is still connected to the grid (electrical co. or meter.)

  3. Off-Grid — this system allows complete energy independent, no ties to the grid or electrical company. While it is more expensive, the system must be designed carefully based on several factors: amount of electricity used, the seasonal solar changes, and demand. You will also need batteries for night time and or cloudy days. This system is ideal for remote locations where utilities do not yet exist, such as newer buildings and or older farms.

  4. Utility-Scale PV — this systems provides solar power for regional along with the electrical company.
