Why is Solar power getting so much attention these days?

In one word "Renewable." Unlike power that is generated from depleting natural resources (fossil fuels), solar energy - clean energy from the sun, is ENDLESS!

What is a Solar PV?

PV (photovoltaic) is solar panels used to convert sunlight into electricity via solar cells.

How does Solar PV work?

The panels react when exposed to the sun by creating DC (direct current) which is sent to the inverter converting into AC (alternating current); this in turn is supplied to the electrical system for use in your home and or business.

What are Renewable Energy Credits REC's?

Renewable Energy Credits are credits that are earned, for every 1 KWH/AC saved per year. These credits are then sold to help offset the cost of your installation. We can help you locate aggregators who will assist in selling your "REC'S".

Will the Solar PV's make me OFF-GRID?

No, not 100%, you can reduce your dependency of the Grid (electrical co,) it would depend on the amount of panels. It is possible to start off small and add panels to your existing system.

What size system will I need to install?

Each customers needs may vary depending on their budget, desire to be energy independent, and location. An installer will analyze several factors; available sunlight, shading, location, budget and customer preference. The ultimate system size will be up to you.

How much savings will I see on my utility bill?

The savings depends on the system size.

What are the tax credits and rebates I hear about on the news?

There are rebates and tax credits given by the State and the Federal government as well as individual counties. Please see tax Incentives for detailed explanations.

What will the Solar PV's look like on my roof?

Panels are mounted onto existing roof structure. They can be mounted on the available roof spaces that face South, West and East.

How long does the installation take?

The installation process varies on the size of the system. The average residential home takes approximately 2-3 days, Commercial system installs may take longer.

Is the system maintenance free?

Practically, since the modules have no moving parts they require very little maintenance. A cleaning every 6 months and the rain will typically take care of that for you.

Will the weather affect my solar system?

The systems are designed to withstand harsh weather conditions. During the snow and immediately after, the system may temporarily reduce the energy that is produced. However the panels are placed where the most sun is projected - meaning this will be the first area to melt. Wind up to 110 miles per hour. Rain will help keep the system clean. Extreme temperatures as well as lightning are not a problem.

Will the system provide electricity during power outages?

The PV's require no storage systems and therefore will not provide electricity during an outage. For an additional cost a battery storage system can by integrated into a grid-tied PV system which will than enable the system to provide electricity during outages as well as nights.

Is it possible to buy and install the battery backup system at a later time?

Yes, the battery systems use the same panels so you will only need to replace the inverter with a special hybrid device.

How long will the system last?

The panels have a life expectancy of over 30 years. Since the panels are only working on average 6 - 8 hours per day, we expect the life could even be longer

Is there a warranty?

The manufacturer of the panels has a 25 year warranty. The inverter has a warranty between 5-10 years depending on manufacturer.

Will the Solar PV's affect the value of my home?

Long-term studies published in the Appraisal Journal indicate that home improvements saving money on annual electricity costs will increase the property's value by a 20-to-1 ratio. If you are saving $1,000 a year off your electricity bill by having solar panels, your property value will increase by $20,000. This will help home buyers make a more rational financially better decision.
